Plumber/Steamfitter
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Maintenance & Engineering, the Plumber / Steamfitter performs a full range of Journeyperson level Plumber and Steamfitter duties utilizing considerable initiative and judgement in accordance with blueprints, diagrams, building codes (for plumbing steam fitting and gas / medical gas), provincial trade regulations and department policy. The incumbent monitors, tests, troubleshoots and documents the performance of high/ low pressure steam, hot water heating, associated plumbing distribution systems and equipment. In addition, the incumbent will complete preventative maintenance duties on assigned equipment along with testing and servicing existing equipment to ensure safety codes are met. Will assist trades and other maintenance staff as required and performs other duties as assigned. May be required to rotate on-call responsibilities at the discretion of the Manager. This position may be required to work at other hospital sites for a longer duration within the Edmonton Zone (including rural). These sites include Alberta Hospital Edmonton, Sturgeon Community Hospital, Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital, Strathcona Community Hospital / CASA, Northeast Community Health Centre, Leduc Community Hospital, Devon General Hospital, Westview Health Centre, Henwood Treatment Centre, Food Service Centre and Central Production North.
Description:
As a Plumber/Steamfitter plans, you will perform a range of journeyperson level duties associated with the installation and plumbing services and piping systems, fixtures, equipment and controls used to transport water, waste, gas, air, and steam. You will be responsible for monitoring, testing, trouble shooting, documenting and analyzing performance of high and low pressure steam, hot water heating, associated distribution and control systems and equipment , plumbing, medical gas, domestic hot & cold water, tempered water, glycol, chilled water, natural gas, storm and sanitary sewer. In addition, you will prepare feasibility and cost estimates and reports and request or order supplies.

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Plumber and Journeyperson Steamfitter-Pipefitter certificates from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
Additional Required Qualifications:Valid Alberta Journeyperson Plumber and Journeyperson Steamfitter-Pipefitter certificates recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented by related technical courses. Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair as necessary. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must have the ability to comprehend and utilize a computerized maintenance system. Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:Five years previous related Plumbing and Steamfitter experience in an industrial or institutional setting with a maintenance background is preferred. Preference will be given to those that possess a Gasfitter Ticket.
