This role is critical to supporting patient care by ensuring the safe, reliable operation of hospital plumbing systems in accordance with applicable codes, specifications, and AHS standards. Responsibilities include emergency, corrective, and preventative maintenance; installation, repair, and troubleshooting of domestic water, sanitary and storm drainage, fixtures, pumps, valves, and backflow prevention devices, with involvement in steam and condensate systems that support hospital operations. Work is performed in occupied clinical and non-clinical areas, requiring a strong focus on safety, infection control, and minimal disruption to patient services. Description:
As a Plumber/Steamfitter plans, you will perform a range of journeyperson level duties associated with the installation and plumbing services and piping systems, fixtures, equipment and controls used to transport water, waste, gas, air, and steam. You will be responsible for monitoring, testing, trouble shooting, documenting and analyzing performance of high and low pressure steam, hot water heating, associated distribution and control systems and equipment , plumbing, medical gas, domestic hot & cold water, tempered water, glycol, chilled water, natural gas, storm and sanitary sewer. In addition, you will prepare feasibility and cost estimates and reports and request or order supplies.

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Plumber and Journeyperson Steamfitter-Pipefitter certificates from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
Additional Required Qualifications:Journeyperson Plumber and/or Steamfitter-Pipefitter Certificate recognized in Alberta. Interprovincial (Red Seal) endorsement in Plumbing and/or Steamfitting-Pipefitting. Demonstrated experience in large institutional or commercial facilities, preferably healthcare, industrial, or campus environments. Strong working knowledge of Alberta Safety Codes, CSA standards, and applicable building and gas codes. Experience working with steam and condensate systems, including valves, traps, PRVs, heat exchangers, and pressure systems. Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and specifications. Strong understanding of preventative maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Commitment to safety, including experience with lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and WHMIS. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary facilities team. Strong communication skills for coordinating work in occupied buildings and clinical areas. Physically capable of performing the duties of the role, including lifting, working in confined spaces, and accessing mechanical rooms and ceilings.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous hospital experience. Backflow prevention certification. Gasfitter Class B or A Certs. Medical gas installation or maintenance experience. Familiarity with infection prevention and control (IPC) practices in healthcare settings.
