Plumber

Here is your opportunity to work with our team in downtown Calgary. We're looking for someone who has strong teamwork skills. Under limited supervision, the Plumber performs a full range of journeyperson level Plumbing and Gas Fitting, duties utilizing considerable initiative and judgement in accordance with blueprints, diagrams, building codes (for plumbing, gas fitting, and medical gas), provincial trade regulations, and departmental policy. Good decision-making skills are a must. Decisions include monitoring, testing, trouble shooting, documenting, analyzing performance, installing, repairing, maintaining and servicing plumbing, medical gas, domestic hot & cold water, tempered water, glycol, chilled water, natural gas, storm and sanitary sewer, steam and hot water heating and associated distribution and control systems and equipment. Emergency situations such as a disruption to the medical gas system the plumber will respond to make decisions and implement necessary actions to correct the problem. This position is primarily based out of the Sheldon Chumir Heath Center, but there may be a need to provide coverage at other sites within the Facilities Maintenance & Engineering site Director's portfolio.
Description:
As a Plumber, you will plan, install and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls used to transport water, waste, gas and air. You will be responsible for monitoring, testing, trouble shooting, documenting and analyzing performance of plumbing, medical gas, domestic hot & cold water, tempered water, glycol, chilled water, natural gas, storm and sanitary sewer, associated distribution and control systems and equipment. In addition, you will prepare feasibility and cost estimates and reports; request or order supplies.

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Plumber Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 5 years previous relevant plumbing experience in an industrial or institutional setting. Excellent computer skills and aptitude as daily duties are distributed through a Computerized Maintenance Management System. Regular lifting up to 20 kg, using proper lifting techniques. Must be able to walk, stand, reach, kneel, crouch for long periods. (75% of shift.) Must have demonstratable experience work safely and knowledge of Field Level Risk Assessments / Job Hazard Assessment forms. Must be able to provide coverage at our Health Shared Services facilities when required. Must be able to push & puIl, equipment up to 150 kg. (tool carts, pallet jack usage etc.) Must be able to work with team members, contractors of varying trades and Health Shared Services Project teams Including inspections of new construction & renovations projects. Must be able to complete preventive maintenance and demand work orders in a timely manner as per standards. Must be able source, parts estimates for materials to complete repairs, for management. Must be able to read, interpret, understand mechanical systems drawings and blueprints.
Preferred Qualifications:City of Calgary - Cross Connection Control Testers Registration. Prior hospital maintenance experience as plumber.
