Your Opportunity:

As a Physiotherapist II, you will play a key leadership role within an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, helping shape high-quality patient care while supporting the growth and development of team members and learners. In this dynamic role, you will provide team leadership within the service area, supporting collaboration, clinical excellence, and day-today operations across the program. The current assignment for this position is within the Stroke/Brain Injury team with a combined clinical caseload on the Stroke/Brain Injury Unit; however, assignment may change based on operational requirements, service needs, and program priorities. You will work both independently and collaboratively to assess, treat, and support patients and families with complex rehabilitation needs. The role involves making clinical decisions related to assessment, intervention, discharge planning, and follow-up care, while also serving as a resource and mentor to colleagues managing complex clinical situations. You will provide clinical leadership to promote safe, effective, and evidence-informed physiotherapy practice aligned with Alberta legislation, professional standards, ethical practice expectations, and organizational policies. Responsibilities include supporting service delivery, identifying operational and patient care needs, assisting with caseload management, completing chart audits, and providing feedback and guidance to staff. This position also offers opportunities to contribute to program development, operational planning, quality improvement initiatives, and committee work. Working closely with managers, other team leaders, and healthcare partners, you will help support workflow planning, service priorities, and staffing considerations to ensure the delivery of exceptional rehabilitation care.

Description:

As a Physiotherapist II, you will provide coordination of physiotherapy and other allied health clinical services. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. You will work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure physiotherapy practice is evidence based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be coordinating the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will participate in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will make decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow, caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. AHS is dedicated to supporting our Physiotherapists in their practice area and expanding their skillsets regardless of location. All AHS Physiotherapists have access to a list of experienced clinicians across the province and are able to tap into this resource via email, phone and virtual meetings. As we transition to our Provincial Electronic Medical Record (Connect Care) you will also be able to share patient information real time with these senior clinicians to assist you in providing high quality care.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of three years of experience in at least one of the clinical areas supported by the team is required, along with prior experience in adult neurological rehabilitation. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and clinical decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively support teams in a fast-paced rehabilitation environment. Well-developed problem-solving, analytical thinking, communication, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills are essential. Strong written, verbal, and computer skills are also required. This role requires the physical ability to safely perform lifts, transfers, repositioning, and other physically demanding activities associated with inpatient rehabilitation practice. The current assignment includes a Team Leader role within the Stroke/Brain Injury inpatient program, combined with a clinical caseload on the Stroke/BI unit. Program assignments may change based on operational requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous implementation experience of Quality Initiatives and experience with research projects.
