Your Opportunity:

The Stollery Children’s Hospital requires a Pediatric Physical Therapist to work with children and their families in a busy Ambulatory Care setting. Service is provided to a variety of patients, both in the outpatient setting and in specialized clinics within the hospital. The successful Physiotherapist I will screen and/or comprehensively assess pediatric clients and develop customized goals and treatment plans for therapeutic intervention, within a multidisciplinary team setting. The successful candidate is required to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with all members of the healthcare team, and effectively communicate with other healthcare professionals. Commitment to a family-centered care philosophy and collaborative practice is essential. In addition to working with families, the successful candidate has the opportunity to influence practice through the provision of education to and consultation with the multidisciplinary team, as well as to participate in quality initiatives and program development. Clinical leadership, education and/or mentorship of professional/support staff and students, and consultation with community resources, is an expectation.

Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Valid BCLS-HCP certification. Performance and attendance must be suitable to the employer. Excellent communication, conflict resolution, team building, time management and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

A minimum of two years of expertise in the management of pediatric populations. Adaptability and flexibility in a hectic work environment. Demonstrated ability to prioritize caseloads, and work both independently and on a multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of community health care is an asset. Experience in the areas of: plastic surgery, orthopedics, chronic pain, pulmonary rehab, motor development. Specialized training in the area of splinting and casting are assets.
