Your Opportunity:

The Rehabilitation Oncology (RO) team based at the new Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre—comprised of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, recreation therapists, speech-language pathologists and therapy assistants—works collaboratively with one another and with other health-care professionals to develop and deliver services and patient education materials. The team is also focused on building local capacity to ensure timely and effective patient care. The RO team is seeking dynamic, flexible, compassionate and team-oriented Physiotherapists to join us in a casual role, primarily supporting our inpatient units. if this sounds like you, we’d be excited to have you join our team! Under the general supervision of the Manager, this casual Physiotherapist (PT) position is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients referred to inpatient physiotherapy, which includes development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized treatment plans based on best-practice standards. As capacity allows, the casual PT also contributes to broader team activities, including the development of patient education materials, participation in interdisciplinary rounds and working groups, case consultation, mentorship of staff and students, and involvement in triage and service planning processes. This role supports high-quality, patient centred care and plays an important part in advancing rehabilitation services within the cancer care continuum. This position is physically demanding and involves repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and equipment. Applicants for the casual role should be available Monday to Friday and able to work 2–3 shifts per week during their orientation period.

Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of Master's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program Active registration and practice permit with Physiotherapy Alberta College + Association Active Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS Certification by first day of work Minimum 2 years of working experience in an inpatient or outpatient adult rehabilitation area Experience providing physiotherapy care in an interdisciplinary team Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to navigate differences constructively and support positive resolution of conflicts. Demonstrated effective time management and organization skills Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint, Word) Skilled in recognizing and managing cancer related distress within the physiotherapy scope, adjusting treatment plans accordingly, and coordinating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, appropriate care.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year of oncology experience in an urban adult inpatient and/ or outpatient setting. Clinical knowledge of bone marrow transplant care and hematological cancers. Minimum 1 year working in a palliative care environment. Experience facilitating groups and classes. AADL authorizer for compression garments and/ or mobility aids. One year’s experience using Connect Care and completion of Allied Health Therapies ILT. Experience working with Therapy Assistants.
