Your Opportunity:

Located in N.E. Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital providing inpatient and outpatient services. With over 600 beds, PLC offers Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Women’s Health, and Critical Care and serves as the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan, and Southeastern British Columbia. The Allied Health Department includes Rehabilitation, Social Work, and Spiritual Care professionals who collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team to deliver patient- and family-centered care. Reporting to the Clinical Leader and Allied Health management, the successful candidate will assess, treat, educate, and manage patients across areas such as general medicine, orthopedics, general and vascular surgery (including amputee rehab), intensive care, and emergency. Caseloads vary based on operational needs, and coverage across units may be required to maintain workload balance. This role is physically demanding, involving frequent lifting and patient transfers. The Physiotherapist I ensures evidence-based practice aligned with clinical standards. Candidates must demonstrate strong patient- and family-centered care strategies and foster inclusive environments that respect diverse populations, including ethno-cultural, equity-seeking, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized individuals, persons with disabilities, and all age groups.

Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Relevant experience working in an adult acute care setting within the last 3 years. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with colleagues, members of the interdisciplinary team, patients and families in a dynamic health care setting. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills. Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload to -keep pace in a busy multi-disciplinary patient care. Demonstrates behaviours consistent with the values of AHS – Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Safety. Job demands A high level of physical effort is required related to clinical caseload. Includes maintaining a standing position, perform up to a medium level of work (20-50lbs handled occasionally) including bending and/or rotation related to client transfers or therapeutic intervention. Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in the following acute care areas: Orthopedics, General Medicine, and Critical Care. Experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e. ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, and persons with disabilities, etc.). Previous Connect Care training is an asset. Understanding of trauma informed care principles
