Pharmacy Technician
Your Opportunity:
Pharmacy Technicians will work with Pharmacy Assistants and Pharmacists working to their full scope of practice. Under the limited supervision of the Operations Manager, Pharmacy Technicians work collaboratively with the health care team performing moderately complex duties, performing all aspects of drug distribution to provide the efficient daily operation of all departmental services and programs leading to safe and quality patient care. Core duties may include, but are not limited to EPIC overnight verification and medication transfer reports, non-hazardous sterile compounding of large volume home parenteral doses, repackaging, final product release required by regulated health professionals, non-sterile compounding, handling and storage of controlled substances, inventory control and management including receiving and purchasing of pharmaceuticals, emphasis on turn over to reduce outdating of medications, and provision of ward stock through automated dispensing cabinets. Assisting with training for staff hires and precepting students. Obtaining information to facilitate medication reconciliation activities and clarify discrepancies to support the provision of direct patient care. Maintaining department records and preparing reports as required. Building interactive relationships with all members of the healthcare team including communicating with nursing staff to clarify orders and requests, triaging drug information questions and distribution issues, providing zone support to program when required. Maintain performance of internal validation for compounding and final product checking. Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned. As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Current, provisional, or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.
Additional Required Qualifications:2 years Regulated Pharmacy Technician with Alberta College of Pharmacists. Sterile Multi-ingredient & Medium Risk Level Compounding Preparations & Certified. IV Compounding Automated Pumps. EPIC & EPIC Inventory experience, barcoding, compounding & repackaging, dispensing functionality, medication transfers – ordering – receiving, monitoring – par & opt – medication recalls – medication backorders. 2 years’ experience with Non-Hazardous Sterile Compounding – Final Checking Validation within the past 6 months. Must be in good physical condition as majority of shift involves typing, static positions, visual acuity, heavy lifting and grip strength, twisting, standing, crouching, bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, walking and standing for extended periods of time. Demonstration of reliability required of essential work in healthcare.
Preferred Qualifications:Omnicell Automated Dispensing for Medication Management. Preceptor for Technician Learning Rotations. Clinically Deployed Experience - BPMH/Med Review Trained. Aseptic Lead is an asset. Previous Hospital Pharmacy in rural, remote locations in North Zone is an asset.
