Your Opportunity:

Pharmacy Technicians who work in Correctional Health collaborate with other healthcare professionals, correctional centre authorities, and other external stakeholders in a secure setting to provide care to adults and youth in custody. Practicing within their full scope, the Pharmacy Technician performs all aspects of drug distribution including medication order entry, preparation and repackaging of patient specific and ward stock medications. Other duties include keeping records of controlled drugs and assisting in inventory control and purchasing. This position is responsible for final product checking and providing clinical support for the provision of patient care.

Description:

As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately and be able to distinguish routine functions with those requiring professional judgment is essential. Computer and keyboarding skills are necessary. Candidates must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time. Some lifting is required. Manual dexterity and visual acuity to accurately prepare pharmaceuticals is required. Candidate must maintain security clearance for duration of position. Preference given to candidates who are fully registered with ACP as a pharmacy technician.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years' experience practicing as a pharmacy technician in a community or institutional pharmacy. Recent/current volunteer experience related to pharmacy, such as with a pharmacy technician professional organization (e.g. PTSA, CAPT) or with a regulatory or certification body (e.g. ACP, NAPRA, PEBC). Membership with a pharmacy professional organization, like PTSA, is an asset. EPIC Willow experience is preferred.
