Your Opportunity:

The Pharmacist I will play a key role in providing patients with quality health care and will have the opportunity to learn and grow within an inter-professional team. This position is based at the Edmonton Remand Centre and key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems. Active participation in patient care rounds and liaising with members of the health care team. Documentation of clinical interventions for expected and real outcomes. Drug stewardship and application of evidence-based medication related recommendations for the management of various medical conditions. Utilizing relevant and appropriate resources available within Alberta Health Services for drug information queries. Preceptorship and mentoring of pharmacy students, residents and other pharmacists. Correctional Health operates within the Edmonton Remand Center, Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Center, Calgary Remand Center and Calgary Correctional Center. Pharmacists working in this area collaborate with various healthcare professionals, correctional center authorities, and other external stakeholders in a secure setting to provide care to adults and youth in custody. This is accomplished through actively participating in clinics, collaborating with members of the health care team, and engaging the patient to formulate a medication treatment plan. The Pharmacist I will have the ability to practice to full scope providing great learning and development opportunities within Correctional Health.

Description:

As a Pharmacist I, you will be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. You will manage medication therapy for patients, both initially and on an ongoing basis. In addition, you will provide assessment, intervention and resolution of potential or actual drug-related problems and oversee activities related to compounding and packaging.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Additional Prescribing Authorization. Fluency in the English language (both written and verbal). Computer literacy in drug information and word processing. Demonstrated ability to use evidence-based medicine in direct patient care. Ongoing participation in self-directed learning and purposeful professional development. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills. Capable of making decisions and working independently. Good time management skills, including ability to prioritize, switch priorities as needed, and multitask. Self-motivated; able to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment. Successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance from Justice and Solicitor General for the entire time spent in this position. Recent experience in a proactive clinical practice as a part of a multidisciplinary health care team. Previous infectious disease, HCV or HIV specialty experience. Previous experience with Connect Care.
