Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Warm and welcoming engagement style. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. BLS Level C. This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work-related travel is required. Class 5 Driver’s license or willing to acquire a Class 5 Driver’s License. Lived experience of poverty, experience in recovery from a mental health and/or addiction illness. Must be willing to share personal experience. Knowledge of systemic issues such as poverty, unemployment, stigma, medications, and the isolation felt by individuals with serious addictions and/or mental health issues. Willingness to work with clients and their families/supports. Involvement with local/emerging community of practice and with national peer support organization is strongly encouraged.

Preferred Qualifications:

Able to lift and carry up to 10 KG, climb stairs (e.g. Peer Support is outreached to peers/service recipients in the environment/location most appropriate/acceptable to the peer). Work is done outside of the office in a variety of community settings including service recipient homes, workplaces, community agencies, retail outlets, parks, and recreational facilities. Hazards can include pets and high-risk neighborhoods. Must be able to independently transport self from one environment to another.
