Orthopaedic Technician Certified - Emergency
Your Opportunity:
The Orthopedic Technician - Emergency: Plans and implements patient care services to patients/clients based on functional centre and facility standards, guidelines, policies and procedures. Directly reports to the manager. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, provides nursing care including assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation and communication of same. Demonstrates and practices knowledge of current principles, techniques and procedures within specified guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge of guidelines as set out by the licensing body and performs duties accordingly and within established scope of practice. Provides clinical assistance and direction to other members of the patient care team, as appropriate. Provides safe, quality nursing care as directed. Able to prioritize patient care according to level of acuity. Applies knowledge of casting procedures and orthopedic appliances within regulations and guidelines of the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technicians and/or a recognized Orthopedic Technician program. Works under the direction of the physician when performing orthopedic procedures Shift work in the emergency department according to rotation, with assistance provided when required in orthopedic clinics and other related areas. Requires lifting as part of patient care. Performs other duties as required. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:3-5 years nursing and orthopedic technician experience in an Emergency Department, within the last 5 years. Emergency Nursing Provincial Education Program (ENPEP) completion. ASAP Epic training and experience. Additional certification and/or courses may be required.
