Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) services are provided by a team of health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer by providing support and expert care from the time of cancer diagnosis through treatment and beyond by leaders in cancer diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and palliative care. The Cross Cancer Institute is looking for an OT II to join our progressive, patient focused team. The Rehab Oncology team collaborates with each other and with other health care professionals to develop and offer services, programming and patient education. Reporting to Supportive Care Manager North, the OTII is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients referred to the service as well as the development, implementation and evaluation of treatment programs according to professional practice standards, student supervision and staff education. OTII will provide evidence-informed services designed to meet the needs of individuals/groups to define protocols for treatment of a wide range of symptoms from numerous types of cancer, including outpatient and inpatient occupational therapy treatment for cancer, participation in development and delivery and evaluation of patient education classes, as well as pain and symptom control of cancer and palliative care supports. OT assessment, treatment, and consultation to adult patients with cancer-related impairments, including-but-not-limited to, chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy, fatigue, functional impairments impacting ADLs, eating/feeding and dysphagia management, neurological involvement, head and neck cancer, breast cancer, sexual health, and pain and symptom management.
Description:
As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
Additional Required Qualifications:Active Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Its Your Move patient handling certification. Minimum three (3) years clinical experience within the last five (5) years in inpatient or outpatient acute care or rehabilitation setting. Minimum two (2) years oncology and/ or palliative experience. Experience with splinting equipment and fabrication of custom splints; adaptive aid and equipment; orthotic devices, including both commercial and fabricated. Experience in the past 12 months with referral triage and caseload management. Experience working with Therapy Assistants. Intermediate to advanced computer skills: Netcare, Microsoft Office and EMR (EPIC, ARIA). Experience using virtual technology to deliver patient care (phone, Zoom, Telehealth). Demonstrated ability to work within a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team of health care professionals. Experience in program development, evaluation, best practice implementation, and representing OT on committees. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting, twisting and transferring of patients and or equipment. You may be required to sit for prolonged periods and perform keyboarding/ computer and headset use.
Preferred Qualifications:Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) Authorizer. Professional development in the past year related to rehabilitation oncology. Effective self-management and time management skills paired with initiative. Effective self-management and time management paired with initiative. Leadership experience within the past 2 years. Experience in program development, evaluation and best practice implementation and representing OT on committees.
