Your Opportunity:

In Cancer Care Alberta, the Rehabilitation Oncology (RO) team of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, recreation therapists, physiatrists and speech language pathologists collaborate closely and with other health care professionals to develop and offer integrated services and patient education. The team is working on building capacity to ensure timely and effective patient care. The RO team is looking for flexible, patient centered and team-oriented Occupational Therapists (OT) to join our team in a casual capacity. In this casual role, the OTs will primarily support our inpatient palliative care, hematology and cellular therapy units. Under general supervision of the Manager, the OT will: Triage and screen referrals Manage caseload in assigned areas Develop and implement tailored rehabilitation plans to help adapt to life and functional changes due to cancer treatment Help patients achieve their goals through targeted interventions Support patient, family and staff education Participate in rounds, family conferences, meetings Mentor staff and students. Co-create and provide educational materials for patients, families and community partners. Support cross-coverage across inpatient units and outpatient clinics to ensure continuity of patient care. All caseloads and hours of work associated with Supportive Care Services positions are subject to change based on operational needs.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS Certification by first day of work Empathy and compassion: a deep understanding of the functional, cognitive and emotional needs of patients with cancer. Able to adopt a trauma-informed approach to rehabilitation care. At least two years of working experience in adult urban setting (hospital, clinics, home care) Effective interpersonal communication: Ability to connect with patients, families and healthcare teams in various modes of communication (verbal, written, Zoom, email). Experience providing occupational therapy in an interdisciplinary team setting Experience discharge planning and community resources Experience with wheelchair and seating assessments Demonstrated effective time management and organization skills Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite programs (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) Experience working with Therapy Assistants

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with patients undergoing chemotherapy, systemic therapy and radiation therapy Completed Connect Care Allied Health Therapies ILT training Experience facilitating groups and classes AADL authorizer for mobility aids Experience supporting and working with adult palliative populations
