Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist interested in working with adults with complex rehabilitation needs living in the community. The Community Rehabilitation Interdisciplinary Service (CRIS) program is seeking an Occupational Therapist I (OT) to provide occupational therapy assessment and treatment for individuals with neurological and/or chronic medical conditions. This position will provide direct individual and group OT services with an interdisciplinary team, including PT, SLP, Rec T, SW, and TA. Services provided may be in the clinic and virtually. The successful candidate will be required to maintain adequate clinical records, provide rehabilitation consultation to other staff and mentor and supervise OT students and TAs. The ability to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, community-based physicians, community programs, and other stakeholders. Provide effective patient care by making recommendations to support discharge planning. This position supports CRIS services offered at all three locations (Mother Rosalie, Strathcona Community Hospital, and Kaye Edmonton Clinic) with most work completed at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic site.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of 2 years of recent experience working with neurological patients and patients with complex needs. Must possess strong assessment, communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated problem-solving, planning and organization skills. Must demonstrate a strong patient/family-centered approach to care. Strong navigation skills connecting clients with community resources. Strong written communication skills. Working knowledge of computer applications including word processing, email and internet access. Ability to be self-directed and to effectively work both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Must possess a sound understanding of the community and the determinants of health. Strong assessment, critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP). May be required to perform up to a medium level of work (20-50 lbs. handled occasionally) including bending, lifting, pulling, and/or rotation related to client transfers or therapeutic intervention. May sit for long periods of time. In a community setting, there are occasionally some physical demands with transporting equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in Connect Care and/or EMR is considered an asset. Experience working in an outpatient clinic setting. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams. Experience providing virtual and in-person services, both individually and in group settings.
