Your Opportunity:

This position reports to the Unit Manager and works under the supervision of the Clinical Services Supervisor. This unique role has a split assignment that is shared between a Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Unit and a Geriatric Psychiatry Day Hospital (Outpatient). The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and treatment to older adults with complex mental health and psychosocial conditions and co-occurring rehabilitation needs. The role involves conducting Initial OT Assessments; administering, scoring and interpreting cognitive and functional-cognitive assessments; conducting kitchen and bath transfer assessments, prescribing upper extremity exercise programs; and leading Memory and Stress Management groups. The role also includes supervision of OT Assistants and OT Students, participation in interdisciplinary and family conferences, and timely and accurate completion of clinical documentation. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:

As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will provide evidence-informed services, with a focus on occupational performance designed to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or a community. You may act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate and function as an integral health care team member. You will engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity and leisure. You will support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations. As an OT, you will provide comprehensive services, including triage, screening, consultation, assessment, diagnosis, collaborative goal setting, treatment, prevention, self-management, education, case management, referral, transition support, and collaboration with relevant and chosen stakeholders and supports within the client¿s physical, institutional, cultural, and social environments. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. You will collaborate with clients and families in determining, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for the clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community and participate in peer mentoring and supervising students. You may also provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants and Therapy Aides.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program. Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated strong clinical decision-making ability in complex environments is required. Demonstrated skills in working in interdisciplinary teams, effective communication, planning, and organization are required. Minimum two years' experience working as an occupational therapist with adults/older adults with mental health and psychosocial issues and or adults/older adults in a rehabilitation setting. Must be able to complete the physical tasks of assisting with patient transfers, lifts and positioning, as well as mobilizing upper extremities and assisting with mobility.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience conducting cognitive and functional cognitive assessments, experience leading psychoeducation and skills-based groups. Experience working with individuals with cognitive impairment and mental health issues is preferred. Memberships with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT) and/or the Society of Alberta Occupational Therapists (SAOT). Experience and/or training in Connect Care use and in non-violent crisis intervention is considered an asset.
