Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone Medical Affairs, is currently recruiting for a Nurse Practitioner – ICU (multiple positions) to manage the medical needs of ICU/CCU patients within various critical care services within the Edmonton Zone (namely the University of Alberta Hospital Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Grey Nuns Community Hospital Intensive Care/Coronary Care Units (ICU/CCU) and the Misericordia Community Hospital Intensive Care/Coronary Care Units (ICU/CCU). The Nurse Practitioner (NP) role is to promote excellence in clinical practice, utilizing a comprehensive knowledge base and an excellent ability to apply it to the clinical setting. Description:

The primary responsibility is to provide comprehensive direct patient care to the Adult Critical Care population in consultation with the Intensivist / Cardiologist. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is required to perform comprehensive assessments, diagnosis (including ordering and interpretation of test results), interventions (including prescribing of medications), management, referral and evaluation of patient care. The incumbent is expected to provide leadership and participate in program development and evaluation, research and clinical teaching activities. The NP consistently exercises a leadership role in utilizing best practice.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from a recognized Nursing education program. A Master Degree in Nursing with a focus on Advanced Clinical Practice. Must have current registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) in the NP adult stream with current experience as a NP in an acute care setting, preferably Critical Care. A minimum of 5 full time years of related experience as a Registered Nurse, as well as current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification and ACLS are required.
