Your Opportunity:
The Parkinson and Movement Disorders Program (PMDP) is seeking a collaborative Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join an established interdisciplinary specialty team providing care to adults living with Parkinson disease and other movement disorders. The NP is a self-directed advanced practice nurse who functions within a collaborative interdisciplinary model of care, providing specialized assessment, diagnosis within Nurse Practitioner scope of practice, therapeutic management, prescribing, patient and care partner education, longitudinal chronic disease management, and care coordination. The role has been created to strengthen timely access, continuity of care, responsiveness, and coordinated interdisciplinary management for patients and care partners through collaborative specialty practice. Working collaboratively with Movement Disorder Neurologists and the interdisciplinary team, the NP provides advanced nursing care across the continuum of Parkinson and movement disorder care through comprehensive assessment, diagnostic evaluation, therapeutic management, prescribing, referrals, patient and care partner education, longitudinal follow-up, chronic disease management, and care coordination. The role emphasizes continuity of care, symptom management, follow-up, timely access, and coordination with primary care, Home Care, allied health, and community services to optimize patient outcomes, quality of life, and care partner support. Specialist neurologists remain integral members of the care team, providing diagnosis, diagnostic clarification, complex treatment direction, and consultation according to established collaborative care pathways. All duties and responsibilities are performed in accordance with the standards of practice established by CRNA, AHS and PMDP clinical practice standards and protocols.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Master of Science in Nursing (MScN) supplemented by completion of a recognized Nurse Practitioner Program. Experience in chronic disease management and patient-centred care. Strong leadership, communication, clinical reasoning, and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated excellence in advanced assessment, documentation, organization, and patient care. Minimum of three (3) years of recent acute care and/or ambulatory care experience. Physical ability to safely perform patient assessments, moving and handling, transfers, walking, standing, and handling equipment up to 25 lbs. Connect Care training.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience caring for patients with Parkinson disease, atypical parkinsonian syndromes, tremor disorders, dystonia, Huntington disease, or other movement disorders. Working knowledge or clinical experience in neurosciences, neurology, chronic neurological disease, or a related specialty practice area. Experience working within an interdisciplinary ambulatory specialty program. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, collaborative practice.
