Nurse Practitioner
Your Opportunity:
Alberta Kidney Care-South (AKC)-S is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Nephrology teams based out of the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC). This position will provide frontline clinical care for the delivery of Nephrology care at PLC which includes admissions from the emergency department and inpatient care on the Nephrology units. The NP will manage patients admitted to Nephrology services and collaborate with Nephrology teams including Physicians, inpatient and outpatient nursing staff and leaders, allied health team members (including but not limited to Pharmacy and Social Work), subspecialists and PLC administration to ensure seamless transfers into and out of hospital of this complex, high needs, patient group. In addition, this position will also support outpatient nephrology care to Northeast Hemodialysis unit and Olds Hemodialysis unit. You will provide comprehensive, holistic and patient-family centered care and contribute patient care through advanced clinical practice, leadership, consultations, referrals, education and research. In addition, you will provide nursing education and leadership locally, provincially and nationally and will be involved in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and program development related to nephrology patients. The NP requires strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative and trusting relationships with staff, the management team, physicians and all members of the interdisciplinary team and will demonstrate skills in the areas of organization, critical thinking, conflict resolution, advanced problem solving, interdisciplinary leadership and change management. A passion for caring for patients with medical complexity and their families is essential.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Follow the CRNA Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Practitioner Competencies and Nursing Practice Standards in conjunction with other applicable CARNA documents and Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics. Adhere to organizational policies, directives, protocols and procedures; question if they are not current and/or evidence informed. Manage resources in a fiscally responsible manner within areas of responsibility. Demonstrated ability to function effectively both independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with other care providers, patients and their family members. Demonstrated skills in leadership including mentorship, coaching, quality improvement, strategic thinking, program development. Demonstrated strong computer literacy skills (i.e. Connect Care, etc.). Adult Medicine experience in an advanced practice role. Experience working in acute care adult medicine. Inpatient Acute Care experience within the last five years. Experience with the development and/or implementation of evidence-based practice. Experience with program development, change management, quality improvement. Nursing leadership experience within the last 5 years. NP grads/transitional grads with who meets the qualifications will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:NP experience in general internal medicine and/or nephrology. Experience working with adult medical patients within the last 5 years. Nephrology nursing within last 5 years. Experience in a chronic disease management setting within the last five years. Experience with the development and/or implementation of evidence based practice. Experience with program development. Completion of leadership related courses within last 3 years. Progressive nursing leadership experience within last 3 years.
