We are excited to offer a temporary, 1-year Nurse Practitioner position in Critical Care at South Health Campus specifically designed for the graduate Nurse Practitioner who are wishing to start a career in critical care and seeking an exceptional opportunity to build advanced skills in a supportive and inclusive Nurse Practitioner environment within the Department of Critical Care Medicine, Calgary. This role provides structured exposure to complex, high -acuity patients while prioritizing education, mentorship, and professional growth. The successful candidate will join a collaborative interdisciplinary team that is deeply committed to teaching and supporting developing critical care clinicians. Designed for learning: Ideal for Nurse Practitioners early in their post-graduate practice who would like to enter critical care. Protected orientation and residency period. Strong mentorship model led by experienced, supportive Critical Care Nurse Practitioners and physicians. Gradual increase in clinical responsibility and autonomy, matched to comfort and competency. Description:
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) with current licensure (or eligible for licensure). New graduate NPs with critical care RN experience encouraged to apply. Strong interest in pursuing advanced critical care knowledge and skills and pursuing a career in critical care. Demonstrated professionalism, curiosity, and willingness to learn. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
