Nurse Practitioner
Your Opportunity:
Alberta Kidney Care-South (AKC)-S is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join the Glomerulonephritis (GlomNeph) clinic at the Richmond Road Treatment and Diagnostic Centre (RRTD). We are looking for an experienced NP to deliver excellent comprehensive and integrated care to adult patients with Glomerulonephritis. The successful candidate will function as both an autonomous practitioner and a member of a dynamic multidisciplinary team comprised of a GlomNeph NP, pharmacist, nephrologist and other multidisciplinary healthcare providers. The GlomNeph clinic delivers care to a medically complex group of patients who have autoimmune kidney diseases and a times may also have systemic disease. Additionally, the GlomNeph Clinic provides care to patients with complex genetic diseases such as Tuberous Sclerosis. The NP performs restricted activities within their scope of practice as defined by Schedule 24 of the Health Professions Act, the Registered Nurses Profession Regulations and the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Providing timely access to care is a key function of the GlomNeph NP role. The GlomNeph clinic NP role is designed to integrate the skills of the NP into the management of patients in the GlomNeph clinic to ensure safe and optimal delivery of care to this complex group of patients. The breadth of practice is large and includes the management of immune suppression, complications of immune suppression, CKD, and CV risk reduction.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Follow the CRNA Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Practitioner Competencies and Nursing Practice Standards in conjunction with other applicable CARNA documents and Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics. Adhere to organizational policies, directives, protocols and procedures; question if they are not current and/or evidence informed. Manage resources in a fiscally responsible manner within areas of responsibility. Demonstrated ability to function effectively both independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with other care providers, patients and their family members. Demonstrated skills in leadership including mentorship, coaching, quality improvement, strategic thinking, program development. Demonstrated strong Computer literacy skills (i.e. Connect Care, etc.). Adult Medicine experience in an advanced practice role. Experience working in acute care adult medicine. Nephrology/Hematology/Rheumatology experience in an advanced practice role, and Ambulatory and/or Inpatient Acute Care experience within the last five years. Experience with the development and/or implementation of evidence-based practice. Experience with program development, change management, quality improvement. Nursing leadership experience within the last 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications:1-2 years’ recent experience working as an NP in internal medicine an asset. CNeph(C) Certification an asset. Experience in case management process of care within the last two years an asset. Experience and knowledge of immune suppression. Experience as a RN/NP in a chronic disease management setting within the last five years. Completion of leadership related courses; within the last three years. Experience with the application of adult learning.
