Your Opportunity:

A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice nurse (APN) who integrates clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients (International Council of Nurses, 2020; CNA, 2019). NPs have a broad and autonomous scope of practice with the ability to provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. The nurse practitioner role requires advanced knowledge and decision-making skills gained through further clinical practice, education, and experience that enables them to perform additional interventions that are not considered part of the registered nurse scope of practice (CRNA, 2017). With graduate-level education, NPs contribute to collaborative inter-professional care through the advanced practice nursing competencies of advanced clinical practice, education, nursing leadership, and research. NP utilization of advanced practice nursing competencies has demonstrated benefits for increasing care quality and promoting appropriate use of health services, as well as informing and influencing healthcare systems (CNA, 2019). In the clinical setting, the NP role may be utilized in a variety of care models and has been shown to improve access to healthcare, reduce wait times, and optimize health outcomes (CNA, 2019). Clinical care delivery models include the NP providing care as a Most Responsible Health Care Practitioner (MRHP); as the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (PCHNP); as the Attending Most Responsible Prescriber (Attending MRP); and as the Ambulatory Most Responsible Nurse Practitioner (Ambulatory MRNP).
