This position works with the Adult Addiction and Mental Health Community Clinic located in the Medicine Hat Provincial Building, serving clients from Medicine Hat and surrounding areas. This exciting opportunity requires an energetic and dynamic individual to work as a Mental Health Therapist - Generalist. If you are passionate about providing excellent addiction & mental health client-oriented, trauma-informed, and culturally-responsive individual and group counselling for adults in a community setting, then this is the ideal career opportunity for you. As a Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform short-term counselling, utilizing a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches. Description:

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

At least two years of counselling experience (assessment, creation of treatment plan and formulation, utilization of at least two therapeutic modalities, crisis intervention, case management, resource navigation and referrals, discharge planning) for clients struggling with addiction and/or mental health difficulties. Competence in group facilitation is expected.

Preferred Qualifications:

A certification in suicide prevention (Suicide Prevention & Risk Assessment management https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/info/page14579.aspx) and Trauma informed care (Trauma Training Initiative https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/info/page15526.aspx) is a significant asset. Courses and certifications in addictions and mental health or from PACES (https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/info/Page16083.aspx) will be an asset.
