Your Opportunity:

As a member of a multidisciplinary team, reporting to the Program Manager, Community Addiction and Mental Health, Central Zone - South, you will provide emergent intervention, screening, risk and mental health assessment, diagnostic and treatment planning, provisional diagnostic services and treatment services to adults with acute and chronic psychiatric disorders. Service is provided primarily to adult clients but may on occasion respond to client needs of all age groups with addiction and psychiatric disorders, i.e., children, adolescents and their families. Utilizing a variety of treatment modalities, you will undertake individual and group psychotherapy as guided by client need. Additional responsibilities will also include working in partnership with and providing consultation to community agencies, and physicians in the continuum of addiction and mental health care. As an active and supportive treatment member, you have excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently. You are a self-directed, highly motivated individual with exceptional leadership, organizational and problem-solving skills that is able to manage change and deal with a fast paced environment. Please note, this facility provides Long Term Care (LTC) or Designated Supportive Living (DSL) services and by Order of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, many AHS employees are restricted to work only at a single LTC/DSL site for the remainder of the pandemic. Speak to the hiring manager who will confirm if, as the successful candidate in this position, you will be restricted to work at only one LTC/DLS site in Alberta.


As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: master's degree in Psychology; master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; master's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; master's degree in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Bachelor of Social Work including training and experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy or Related Master's degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or, Considerable experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing with: Related Master's degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or, Experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Minimum of 3 years' of relevant mental health experience.
