Mental Health Therapist - Police and Crisis Team
Your Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly skilled, team oriented and dynamic individual to join our Addiction and Mental Health Police and Crisis Team (PACT). This position is part of the Addiction and Mental Health Outreach Team and is based out of the Medicine Hat Police Station. As a Mental Health Therapist with PACT you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities to persons experiencing addiction and/or mental health issues. This is a front-line position working on an Outreach basis with the Medicine Hat City Police to provide service to individuals struggling with complex addiction and mental health issues. The successful candidate will provide evidence informed and best practice in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment and post crisis follow up. The MH therapist must be an effective communicator with strong organizational skills and have a demonstrated ability to create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. The successful candidate will have the proven ability to maintain effective working relationships with the Medicine Hat City Police and external stakeholders. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of three years related and relevant post-degree/diploma experience in an addiction and mental health field required; five years preferred. Completion of one of the following programs will be considered: Bachelor of Social Work including training and experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have psychosocial intervention authorization. Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy or, a) Related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or b) considerable experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Diploma or bachelor’s degree in nursing with a) related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or b) experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Authorization to do mental health psycho-social intervention is required. Previous experience working with law enforcement and/or in the criminal justice system. Suicide intervention training required. Experience doing risk assessments required. Preferred Qualifications:Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification. CPR/First Aid preferred. Five years related experience in an addiction and mental health field is preferred. Previous experience working outreach preferred. Please attach a resume to be considered for this position.
