Your Opportunity:

We are seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Therapist with knowledge and experience working with peoples of aboriginal and Metis descent to deliver mental health services to children, youth and adults, primarily to residents in the Metis Settlements of East Prairie, Peavin and Gift Lake. Extensive travel is required. Reporting to the Area 6 manager, this Mental Health Therapist - Aboriginal position works independently, as an integral member of a small travelling team, and as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing evidence informed and promising/best practices in assessment, treatment, addiction and mental health interventions, support and follow up to clients, families and communities. This is an advanced mental health role required to perform duties including the restricted activity of psycho-social interventions to address the full range of mental health issues both in community and health care settings. In addition to office based practice, travelling to, and use of technology to connect with other professionals and clients in their rural communities are primary aspects of the position. The Therapist will work closely with psychiatric and acute care units, community health representative, Aboriginal Health, Aboriginal communities and Addiction and Mental Health North Zone operations as well as Primary Care, Allied Health, Seniors Health and others as applicable. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: Master's degree in Psychology. Master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Master's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Master's degree in Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with Indigenous communities an asset. Experience with community engagement and planning.
