Mental Health Clinician - Intake Coordinator

The Geriatric Mental Health (GMH) teams are multidisciplinary groups supporting older adults with addiction and mental health concerns. Our team includes mental health clinicians from a variety of clinical backgrounds, psychologists, outreach workers, occupational therapist and psychiatrists who specialize in geriatric mental health and addictions. We provide psychology and psychiatric assessments; non-pharmacological recommendations, community engagement; goal directed individual therapy and group-based therapy options for clients. The Intake Coordinator supports the different teams and GMH clients through: Screening referrals for risk and appropriateness. Engaging clients in connecting with the program. Completing program intake requirements. Scheduling initial intake assessments. Delivering information sessions. Co-facilitating groups. Tracking data to identify trends. Covering vacation for the partner Intake Coordinator role. The successful candidate skills and attributes include: Experience in an intake role. Experience facilitating groups. Strong foundation in community mental health. Knowledge of mental health system and resources within AHS and Calgary. Experience working in a multidisciplinary team. Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively. Flexibility in scheduling and adaptability to changes in role and processes. Strong verbal and written communication skills. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or a Master’s degree in Psychology Full registration with a professional college under the Health Professions Act. Provisional registration not appropriate in this role. A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in Mental Health care providing assessment and therapeutic intervention to patients with acute and/or chronic mental health disorders and group facilitation. At least 2 years’ experience in Geriatric Mental Health required. 1 years’ experience in Community Mental Health required. Knowledge of clinical mental health disorders commonly seen in the seniors population required. Knowledge of normal aging and development required. Intermediate computer skills in Outlook email and scheduling, MS Word and Excel required. Intermediate skills in MS Word required. A demonstrated track record of developing effective relationships with diverse professionals required.
Preferred Qualifications:Connect Care training/experience is an asset. Experience with intake and triage within Mental Health and Addiction is an asset. Group facilitation within Mental Health and Addiction an asset.
