Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 3 years' experience in the Addiction and Mental Health field, acute, community, outreach or intake experience, including crisis experience. Experience working with a multidisciplinary team and community agencies. Experience working with diverse populations. Solid knowledge foundation of intervention and treatment modalities relevant to clinical disorders and psychological and environmental problems, including single session model. Strong critical thinking skill, assessment and intervention skills. Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations with varying levels of acuity and a heterogeneous client population. Solid knowledge foundation of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and ability to formulate an accurate provisional diagnosis. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant community resources and legislation. Strong mental health assessment, crisis management and counselling skills. High degree of creativity and flexibility as well as the ability to work independently and to engage and work with a diverse client population. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; high level of interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:Ability to set priorities and organize time effectively. Ability to work in a stressful, demanding and changing conditions. Ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a timely manner. Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations with varying levels of acuity. Proficiency in computer/electronic health record navigation.
