Medical Physicist Assistant
Your Opportunity:
The Department of Medical Physics is seeking a Medical Physics Assistant (MPA) to work full time at the Arthur J. E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary. This centre has 10 Varian linear accelerators, 2 MR-simulators, CT-sim, CT/PET sim, orthovoltage unit and 2 Elekta Unity MR-Linacs. The Medical Physics Department supports active clinical programs in SBRT, TBI, stereotactic radiosurgery and brachytherapy. The successful candidate will join a team consisting of 21 medical physicists, 4 MPAs, electronics, design lab, residents and graduate students. Medical Physics Assistant plays a significant role in the quality assurance program by performing routine and patient-specific quality control (QC) measurements, supporting the QC analysis/database system, and updating and maintaining QC procedures. The MPA also contributes to clinical development work and commissioning activities. Additionally, support is provided by the MPA for the radiotherapy informatics and data management systems administration, configuration and management. Candidate should have a BSc degree (MSc preferred) in physics, engineering, computer science or a related discipline, excellent communication skills, work well in a team, be detail oriented and have good problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Python, other programming, or IT systems administration/support and familiarity with radiotherapy equipment is considered an asset.
Description:
As a Medical Physicist Assistant, you will be responsible for working alongside a Medical Physicist within the identified area. You will assist the Medical Physicist to ensure equipment within the area is fully functioning, this includes performing the full range of quality control checks on medical devices administered by the Medical Physicist and reviewing procedures related to radiotherapy and/or diagnostic imaging devices. You will also provide research support and assist with training students as needed.

Completion of a bachelor's of Science in Physics, Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline from a recognized university.
Additional Required Qualifications:Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory. Ability to follow written procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:Master of Science in Physics, Medical Physics, Engineering or Computer Science in a related discipline. Experience or training in medical physics or radiation oncology physics is an asset. Python or other programming languages are an asset.
