Your Opportunity:

The Department of Medical Physics is seeking a Medical Physicist for a leadership position to provide programmatic leadership for clinical service delivery at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Responsibilities will include: Maintain and enhance quality and safety programs, through the development of standards, QI initiatives, and oversight of QA programs. Work closely with radiation therapy, radiation oncology and radiation safety to instill a culture of collaboration, safety and quality in Radiation Medicine. Develop, grow, and sustain our clinical program centered around patient safety, process improvement, outcome assessment, and patient experience. Support acquisition, development, and operationalization of novel technologies of new radiation oncology equipment and new treatment programs at the new Calgary Cancer Centre. Maximize efficiency of operational technology. Ensure appropriate utilization of medical physics staff skills and resources. Oversee staff training. Create and manage physics coverage schedules. Establish, track and improve key performance indicators relating to patient safety, access to services, staff satisfaction and patient experience. Represent the Medical Physics Department on leadership committees pertaining to quality, safety, and performance improvement. Provide input for the development of the annual medical physics budget and finance variance reports. Participates in development of protocols, policies and procedures. Manage reporting of, and responses to, adverse events in Radiation Medicine, and reduce the risks of adverse events by ongoing analysis of reported and potential adverse events and near misses. This role will also have research, academic and teaching components in partnership with the medical physics graduate and residency programs of the University of Calgary.

Scheduled to open to the public in 2023, the 1.4billion dollar Calgary Cancer Centre will be a leading health care facility, academic, and research centre that will provide cancer services for Calgary and Southern Alberta. For more information on the CCC planning, design and construction, please visit our website. The CCC will have 10 Linacs, 2 MR-Linacs at opening with a total of 15 vaults. There will be two MRIs dedicated for simulation and brachytherapy, as well as orthovoltage, a CT simulator, and a PET-CT simulator. Clinical radiotherapy programs at the current Tom Baker Cancer Centre in brachytherapy, SBRT, TBI, pediatric cancers and stereotactic radiosurgery will be transitioned to the CCC. Required Qualifications:

PhD in Medical Physics or related discipline. Completion of an accredited residency program and/or Membership in the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine or equivalent, specializing in Radiation Therapy physics. Demonstrated commitment to the highest clinical standards and highly developed interpersonal, team work, organizational and leadership skills are also required. Minimum 4 years’ post-residency experience as a Medical Physicist.


Additional Required Qualifications:

All Non-Union/Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusions in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly As required


Preferred Qualifications:

Fellow of Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine. Leadership experience in medical physics.
