Required Qualifications:

Completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing Science or a graduate program in a related discipline at a recognized institution. Nurse Practitioner Certificate with a final clinical focus in adult care (medical/surgical). Basic Cardiac Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certifications. Current registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurse of Alberta (CARNA) (or proven eligibility for CARNA registration). Must be able to support flexible work schedule including on-call support (typical hours of work are 0800-1700 but can vary daily). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to enable working directly with patients and their family members. Ability to work as an effective member of the SHC GI/Hepatology healthcare team. Ability to function independently. Excel at working in a dynamic fast-paced environment. Work well under pressure and stressful situations.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The GI/Hepatology NP may be the most responsible practitioner for individuals and families in some practice settings and will be expected to: Collaborate with members of the healthcare team to provide and promote inter-professional, patient/family centered care. Act independently and autonomously within their scope of practice, to include accepting referrals from others including; healthcare providers, families, patients, physicians and specialists. Consult with and/or refer patients to other healthcare providers as required The GI/Hepatology NP may assume roles across diverse practice settings and patient populations and provide. Education and counselling to patients/families/groups/communities; Formal and informal education and mentorship to other members of the inter-professional healthcare team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent (within the last 8 months) clinical Nursing experience in an acute medical/surgical unit preferred. Recent experience in GI Hepatology preferred. Recent NP experience in an acute care setting preferred.
