Your Opportunity:

The Alberta Health Services (AHS) financial planning team is looking for a Manager, Budgeting that can support the coordination and implementation of the AHS budget planning processes. This position is a leadership role accountable for providing direction and leading processes in support of the development of the AHS budget assumptions and creation of the AHS business plan. This position works closely with both internal and external key stakeholders as well as leaders throughout the organization.


Reporting to the Director, this position will be responsible for preparing, consolidating, and reviewing all high level operating and capital key budget assumptions used to prepare the budgeted financial statements and the AHS business plan. The Manager, Budgeting will analyze large amounts of data and synthesize the information into briefings for AHS senior leadership. This is a dynamic position that requires developing and maintaining strong working relationships with many different areas across the organization. This position requires the ability to consolidate and present information in a clear and concise manner to facilitate decision-making. This position will also need to gain an understanding of the health related budget challenges and risks in order to be confident providing sound financial advice and innovative solutions to leadership, while also highlighting key risks. This position will need to establish and adjust priorities in accordance with competing demands and complex issues. The ability to work in an ambiguous environment is an asset. This position is also expected to lead and mentor staff.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a post-secondary degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or a related discipline. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a financial planning or financial advisory role. Leadership skills, including the ability to effectively direct and manage resources. A strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. A demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with others including senior management and executive levels. Experience in managing projects of different scope, magnitude, and significance. The ability to work with details while also managing the "big picture". A demonstrated ability to facilitate change and be comfortable working in ambiguity, including strong time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work with complex financial information, including working in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA) or MBA. Previous experience in an organization of similar size and complexity. Previous experience in a healthcare environment.
