Your Opportunity:

This position is a key leadership role that will be the lead for the Pediatrics Inpatient Medicine Portfolio at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. The Patient Care Manager (PCM) is responsible for the management of human resources and will provide supportive HR mentorship to out of scope staff. The PCM will be required to identify key challenges, opportunities and provide leadership to support the development of innovative approaches that enable the achievement of the mission/vision and long-term goals. The incumbent is responsible for participating in strategic planning; identifying budget requirements (human, material and capital resources) to safely meet patient needs; managing of expenditures and variance analysis; establishing and maintaining standards of practice; hiring and evaluating performance of professional and ancillary staff. Recognizes need for change across service areas and sets priorities accordingly. Plays a key role in the planning and sustaining change management initiatives throughout the program. Commits to continually improving health and safety performance through promotion of culture; supporting hazard assessment, risk management, incident identification, reporting and correction and compliance with policies and safe work practices. This position enhances relationships with key stakeholders using flexible, customer focused approach that promotes quality care and improvement.

Description:

The Patient Care Manager (PCM) reports directly to the Executive Director (ED) of Inpatient and Ambulatory Care. The PCM position is an Out of Scope management position accountable for the development and implementation of programs, projects and infrastructure and performance standards across teams of health professionals. This position has a key leadership role in strategic planning and development of new initiatives within the identified site. The incumbent may also represent the Stollery Children’s Hospital at regional, provincial and partnership tables for programs and new initiatives. PCM is accountable for planning, maintenance of an effective framework in order to facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective, accessible, qualitative and above all else, safe health care. The PCM is responsible for quality improvement and the identification and management of risk within this portfolio, and in turn appropriately escalating risks and issues. The PCM manages human resources reporting to them and provides supportive HR management mentorship to OOS staff. Holds financial accountability across areas of responsibility and must report to ED any deviations from plan or budget. This position has joint responsibility with other members of the management team to establish direction and priorities for the program within the context of the Stollery Children’s Hospital and Alberta Health Services business plan. The PCM is responsible for identifying and responding to associated regional child health issues and establishing strategic partnerships across the Edmonton Corridor. In addition, the Manager is responsible for identifying and responding to issues and establishing strategic partnerships both Provincially and Nationally, as well as with other sectors, both public and private as appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution required. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role required. Healthcare experience and working knowledge of the health care system are required. Demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishments in the following areas: Progressive leadership experience in a related field including 5 years of experience in a management role in a related area. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to plan, organize and manage short and long term plans and projects and delivers customer-focused results. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners. Demonstrated advocacy for Patient and Family Centered Care.
