Your Opportunity:

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dependable, detail‑oriented Environmental Services Manager committed to high‑quality work and safety. This full‑time role supports the University of Alberta Hospital, Stollery Children’s Hospital, and the Mazankowski Heart Institute. Reporting to the Director of Linen and Environmental Services, the Manager provides leadership within the Linen and Environmental Services (LES) portfolio, ensuring hospital environments are clean, safe, and well‑maintained. LES oversees environmental cleaning, waste stream management, and linen distribution across AHS facilities. Success in this role requires exceptional organizational skills, strong project management capability, and excellent communication. The Manager must be able to mentor and support a large, diverse workforce including Supervisors, Admins, Working Leaders, and frontline staff, while fostering positive working relationships across WHS, IPC, Site Leadership, Units/Programs, FME, and NFLES. Collaboration, relationship‑building, and the ability to lead complex operational initiatives are essential.

Description:

The Manager ensures LES services meet all AHS policies, procedures, regulations, and legislative requirements. Responsible for leading and developing a team of 450+ staff, the role includes coaching, performance management, attendance management, conflict resolution, and goal setting to ensure consistent, high‑quality service delivery. Key responsibilities include acting as the primary liaison for site departments to ensure service needs are understood and met. Managing personnel and resources to support Provincial, Site & Edmonton Area initiatives. Making operational decisions related to service priorities and budget management. Ensuring optimal staffing levels based on service requirements. Building strong working relationships with staff, stakeholders, and peers through proactive communication. Collaborating closely with HR and Abilities Management on performance and attendance matters. Implementing site strategic plans, productivity improvements, and lean process enhancements. Supporting operational planning, leadership development, and service delivery improvements. Overseeing pest control, waste management, and coordination with Facilities, Maintenance & Engineering. Leading and managing projects, including service improvements, operational changes, and cross‑departmental initiatives. Applying strong organizational skills to manage competing priorities, large teams, and complex workflows. Demonstrating excellent communication skills to ensure clarity, alignment, and effective issue resolution across departments.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of post‑secondary education is required, preferably in Business, Commerce, Business Administration, Operations Management, Healthcare, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of management/leadership experience in a large, complex and diverse organization. Proven experience in people leadership, coaching, and staff development. Demonstrated ability to set priorities, schedule work, and allocate resources effectively. Strong decision‑making, coaching, and confidence‑building abilities. Demonstrated project management capability in operational or service‑delivery environments. Exceptional organizational and communication skills. Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who have knowledge of Environmental Services practices and procedures in a management role. Experience in a healthcare environment is an asset. Familiarity with Infection Prevention & Control and Workplace Health & Safety. Knowledge of AHS and NFLES policies and processes. Understanding of industrial cleaning equipment, chemicals, and operational products. Experience leading operational projects or process‑improvement initiatives.
