As the Team Lead, Internal Communication & Engagement, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping how public health programs and services are communicated and understood across the province. You will lead a talented team and collaborate with partners — including Primary Care Alberta, Alberta Health Services and Communications — to deliver impactful strategies that support population-based interventions, integrate health equity and improve health outcomes. Key duties include providing leadership and direction for the Health Marketing & Engagement team in alignment with the vision and mandate of Primary Care Alberta and/or Alberta Health Services. You will guide a team focused on creating, coordinating and aligning communication and engagement strategies for public health initiatives, lead program and operational planning to ensure strategic alignment and measurable impact, and oversee the creation, review, and quality assurance of knowledge translation materials to ensure clarity, consistency and accessibility. You will develop and implement effective communication, and engagement plans for high-priority projects, support business planning and program implementation with a focus on operational excellence and translate insights into actionable communication deliverables that support public health priorities. You will also design and lead engagement strategies that foster collaboration, understanding, and meaningful impact, build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support coordinated public health communication efforts, and assist with planning and managing resources to meet program delivery needs and departmental priorities.
Description:
The Team Lead, Internal Engagement & Communications is a key leadership role within Health Marketing & Engagement and reports directly to the Director. This position has a provincial scope and is responsible for providing strategic support and operational leadership for internal communication and engagement initiatives that support population and public health programs. The Team Lead is accountable for managing and supporting program and operational planning activities, ensuring alignment with the broader strategies and priorities of Primary Care Alberta and Alberta Health Services. This role involves close collaboration with other leaders to guide communication planning, capacity building, and quality improvement across a variety of initiatives. The Team Lead is responsible for facilitating the development of aligned communication and engagement efforts that support public health priorities, while maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. These partnerships are essential to leveraging resources, increasing capacity, and ensuring the delivery of coordinated, effective, and efficient public health communication and engagement activities. In addition, the Team Lead assists with planning, allocating, and managing physical, human, and fiscal resources to meet program delivery needs and support the strategic priorities of Health Marketing & Engagement. The role requires the ability to assess resource requirements, synthesize insights from multiple sources, and translate them into clear, actionable communication deliverables that contribute to improved health outcomes and the advancement of health equity across Alberta.

Master's degree required in health promotion, communication, science or related field. Proven leadership experience in public health communication, engagement or related fields. Expertise in knowledge translation, content development and strategic communication. Progressive leadership experience in a health environment, including 3-5 years' experience in a management role in a health promotion, knowledge translation, or planning team ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Demonstrated management experience and skills. Demonstrated strategic, program and project planning experience. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.

Ability to recognize the need for change across services areas and engage stakeholders in change process, manage risks and benefits accordingly. Experience with evaluation, performance measurement, and quality improvement. Proven ability to manage human, financial, and physical resources. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals. Experience managing within a unionized sector. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to plan, organize and manage short- and long-term plans and projects and deliver customer-focused results. Ability to build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working independently in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Ability to be resourceful, creative, adaptive and flexible. Experience with SharePoint, MS Teams (collaboration technology) and demonstrated advanced skills with MS 365/Office, WordPress and content management an asset.
