Your Opportunity:

The Program Manager with Adult Acute Services at the University of Alberta Hospital will provide inspired leadership and administrative oversight to the five streams of service – The Emergency Mental Health Team (embedded in the UAH ED), Addiction, Mental Health, Neuromodulation, and concurrent disorders. The Program Manager will provide strategic leadership to ensure that patients/clients are offered a high quality of specialized recovery focused care based on evidence informed practice. The Program Manager will ensure that programs including patients/clients within the adult acute programs will be delivered in accordance with Recovery Alberta’s recovery-oriented care. The scope of this role could change in the future as Recovery Alberta continues to reorganize, and the portfolio may change to align with organizational needs.

Description:

The Adult Acute Services Program Manager (PM) position supports all of the Adult Acute Services at the UAH which includes the Emergency Mental Health Team, 2 inpatient units, Neuromodulation, and the UAH Adult Acute Services relief team. Patients accessing these units have a degree of illness and behavioral instability that requires a highly securable environment and a workforce that is skilled in the treatment & stabilization of highly acute illness. Key activities of the Program Manager include recruitment, orientation & training, ensuring clinical practice is reflective of the Recovery Alberta recovery-oriented care, implementation of OBP initiatives, adherence to collective agreements and ensuring that all staff are working to a full scope of practice. Staff scheduling for both planned and unplanned absences with attention to fiscal constraints. The PM acts as a liaison between patients/families and Physicians to address concerns and provide system navigation. Additionally, the PM is accountable for setting and executing strategic and operational priorities including those related to staffing, such as recruitment, orientation, and performance management. The PM will ensure the effective deployment of resources, support change management, and foster a culture of continuous quality improvement. Key internal & external partners that this position would have regular engagement with include Psychiatrists, OPG/OPT, WHS, IPC, Protective Services and the rest of the UAH site. The PM is also expected to demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and strong system navigation skills in a complex environment, fostering collaboration across programs and with multiple stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

Degree or diploma in a health-related field. 5 years’ experience in a leadership position. Current registration with a professional association (if applicable). Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. Able to work well on a team. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Ability to plan, organize and manage short and long term plans/projects, and deliver customer-focused results. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst and build solid relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Nursing or a related health discipline. Previous leadership experience in a healthcare environment, with specific experience in Emergency or Mental Health and Addiction. Certification in Change Management and/or Project Management. Proficiency with Connect Care.
