Join a dynamic leadership team at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC), overseeing medical inpatient units 44 (acute care), 51 (Alternate Level of Care), and 53 (acute care in collaboration with Family Medicine/Hospitalist and General Internal Medicine teams). This role ensures high-quality, patient- and family-centered care for some of Calgary’s most vulnerable populations, including individuals from the North-East quadrant and inner-city communities. These populations often face complex health and social challenges, including poverty, unstable housing, chronic illness, mental health concerns, substance use, and systemic barriers to accessing care. Many are from equity-deserving groups such as racialized communities, newcomers, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQ2S+ individuals, and persons with disabilities. The Manager plays a critical role in fostering inclusive, culturally safe environments that reflect the diverse needs of these patients and their families. Reporting to the Executive Director of Emergency, Medicine & Ambulatory, the Manager collaborates with unit managers and physician leaders to align with PLC’s strategic goals. Success in this role requires strong time management, sound judgment, and a commitment to equity-focused care. Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.
Description:
The Manager position is responsible to promote and maintain a healthy work environment; demonstrate leadership skills with human resource functions including recruitment, coaching, clinical supervision, scheduling, performance appraisal and management within a multiple union environment; and establish and maintain excellent working relationships with physicians, other health care providers and program areas in support patient care and the vision, mission, values and business plan of Alberta Health Services and Acute Care Alberta. The successful incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Consistently role models AHS & ACA values. Ability to balance multiple, competing demands and conflicting priorities. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, based on a framework of patient and family centred care, safety, and quality improvement. Effective facilitator of proven change management principles within teams, and ability to motivate others to achieve organizational goals. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or related degree required. Master level preparation in Nursing or Administration an asset. Minimum of 3-5 years in management/clinical leadership role. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability with decision making, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Self-directed and highly motivated. Demonstrated analytical, organizational, communication and financial skills. Strong commitments to operate a multidisciplinary team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years progressive leadership in a supervisory or leadership role, ideally in a healthcare organization of significant size and complexity. Experience in leading/supporting quality improvement projects. Completion of leadership development courses. Quality Improvement certification (i.e. AHS AIW Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt or equivalent). Change Management certification (i.e. AHS PROSCI or equivalent). Experience with Human Resource systems.
