Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Facilities Maintenance & Engineering Manager, the incumbent is responsible for conducting a variety of maintenance repairs. In addition to the duties of Maintenance Worker I, the incumbent shall perform duties that include the basic maintenance, operation and repair of facility buildings, installations, fixtures, furnishings, machinery and equipment. This position will assist the tradespersons as needed and often works on projects alone. Employees work from work orders, sketches or verbal instruction through various stages of numerous projects and are expected to complete the work assigned to them within scheduled timeframes and in accordance with approved practices and procedures. This position will be required to work at other hospital sites within the Edmonton Zone (including rural). These sites include Alberta Hospital Edmonton, Sturgeon Community Hospital, Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital, Strathcona Community Hospital / CASA, Northeast Community Health Centre, Leduc Community Hospital, Devon General Hospital, Westview Health Centre, Henwood, Edm Central Production Facility and Food Service Centre.

Description:

As a Maintenance Worker II, you may perform routine preventative and demand maintenance activities within the exterior and interior of the building. Under general supervision, you may perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on facility architectural, structural and mechanical systems/components to ensure safety and efficient operation of the building systems and equipment. You may perform a wide range of general maintenance duties including maintenance and repair of drywall, floors and painting. Additional duties may include minor plumbing repair; minor repairs on equipment; checks on equipment for pressure and temperature; and disassembly of equipment for cleaning.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Possession of a valid driver's licence. Power Engineer 5th Class Certificate required where boiler support is necessary.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 education or equivalent is required. Minimum of 2 years’ related experience working in Building Maintenance. Must be in good physical condition with the ability to lift to 50 pounds. Must have ability to work on ladder with arms above shoulder height for long periods of time when required. No physical limitations with regards to sitting, bending, kneeling, crouching, etc. Must have computer skills, in addition to good verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to organize workloads and ensure duties are completed in a timely and thorough manner. Must be committed to providing quality customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

General knowledge of purchasing processes and sources of specialized parts is preferred. Experience or training in a recognized trade would be considered an asset. Power Engineer 5th Class Certification would be an asset.
