Licensed Practical Nurse - Unit 4E4, Pediatric Medicine
Your Opportunity:
Unit 4E4 is a 25‑bed pediatric inpatient unit providing care to patients up to 18 years of age. The unit supports a broad range of patient populations, including general pediatric medicine, neurology, nephrology, pulmonary/respiratory conditions, mental health, and overflow from other pediatric specialty services. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Pediatric Medicine 4E4 is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care in collaboration with the interprofessional healthcare team. Practice is guided by the policies and procedures of the University of Alberta Hospital and Stollery Children’s Hospital and is carried out to the full scope of practice as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). The LPN demonstrates accountability for safe, ethical, and evidence‑informed care, while supporting patient- and family‑centered practice. The role contributes to clinical quality, continuity of care, and effective communication within the healthcare team. Opportunities for professional growth include participation in unit‑based safety and education initiatives, skill certification development, involvement in the unit quality council, and engagement in broader Alberta Health Services initiatives. Staff within the Medicine Program may be cross‑trained and floated to other pediatric inpatient units within the Stollery Children’s Hospital, based on operational need, individual competence, and skill set, to support safe patient care delivery.
