Your Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity in our program for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the Northern Alberta Renal Program (NARP). As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse - Renal Dialysis is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN provides patient and family centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The LPN will practice within the guideline and philosophy of the NARP. You will be encouraged and be expected work at your full scope of practice and provide a variety of nursing duties in accordance with current policies and nursing care standards. The LPN must be available to take Hemodialysis Orientation in Edmonton or Red Deer. Hemodialysis orientation will take 6 weeks: 4 weeks on unit training and 2 weeks of buddy shifts (or equivalent hours). A passing mark of 80% on the final exam and satisfactory performance during clinical component is required to move on to buddy shifts which are assigned by the hiring manager. Upon successful completion of Orientation and buddy shifts, the candidate will be scheduled and required to attend a 2-day Post-Orientation in Edmonton or Red Deer within 3 months of hire.

You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated effective time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem solving and decision making abilities. Must be able to provide direction to other health care workers. Basic computer skills. Must be able to lift 40lbs (18kg).

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1-2 years within the last 5 years Adult Acute Care experience. Acute and Chronic Hemodialysis and/or nephrology nursing experience.
