Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Current adult surgical nursing experience within the last 5 years is required. Preference will be given to applicants with Adult General Surgery experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Demonstrated excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, organizational and patient care skills. Proficient at medication administration calculations. Strong interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills is needed. Ability to communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner, both written and verbally. Demonstrated ability to deal with stressful situations and work in a fast paced, physically demanding environment. Able to prioritize complex patient care needs and demands, prioritize workload assignment and cope with frequent interruptions. Demonstrate initiative, reliability, flexibility and critical thinking. Able to identify own learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur. Able to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment. Connect Care trained.
Preferred Qualifications:Current IV therapy, Pre-op/Post-op care protocols, Central line/PICC care, Ostomy care, basic surgical wound/drain care, complex wound care and negative pressure wounds (VAC dressing), NG tube insertion and management. Strong patient teaching skills. Note: Rotation subject to change.
