This position also involves actively participating in the development and coordination of discharge planning and providing leadership to HCAs on the nursing team. In addition, the following are core competencies of the LPN: ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team, ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members, ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and conditions and maintain accountability for practice. The LPN displays continued critical thinking, time management, and communication skills, along with the ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise with initiative and self-direction. The LPN will float to support teams throughout the entire Medicine Program.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:BCLS issued from Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC) only. Ability to float throughout the entire Medicine Program. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job. The physical demands of this role will require the successful candidate to walk, stand, kneel, bend, reach and sustain posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling of objects greater than 40 lbs, including frequent patient transfers. You will also be required to complete "It's Your Move" training, a safe client handling program through AHS' Workplace Health & Safety.
Preferred Qualifications:Depth & breadth of nursing knowledge & complex reasoning reflective of level of education. Strong clinical knowledge, complex reasoning, and communication skills, including conflict resolution to improve inter-professional patient/community-centered care is ideal. Experience working in a medicine unit, or on multiple units is preferred. CoACT experience is ideal. IV Certification is an asset. Previous experience with Connect Care (Epic) is preferred.
