At the Red Deer Day Medicine department, we are committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care in an ambulatory treatment setting. Our department provides infusion treatment therapy, delivering patient-centered and efficient care. We are looking for a dedicated and skilled professional to join our team and help us continue to offer exceptional care to our patients. As an ambulatory treatment nurse working within a collaborative team, you will play a key role in supporting our department by delivering high-quality outpatient care and ensuring a seamless experience for our patients. This is a dynamic and rewarding position for someone with a passion for patient care and a desire to work in an outpatient setting. Duties include: admitting and assessing patients, administration and preparation of various IV medications and blood products, assisting Physicians with procedures, providing patient teaching information, in-depth documentation, use of therapy plans, astute management of vascular access, and other duties as required. This position is physically demanding (including but not limited to) frequently standing for long periods of time, walking long distances on unit, bending, pushing, pulling, and heavy lifting. Must be able to physically reposition patients, assist patients with mobility issues to and from chair/stretcher, assist to ambulate patients with mobility issues to the bathroom. As this is a casual position, open availability, especially during high vacation periods, is a must. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated commitment to teamwork, strong organization and clinical judgment, excellent communication, interpersonal skills and strong emphasis of customer service focus is required. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment references. Minimum 2 years (current within the last 4 years) of Medical/Surgical Nursing experience required. PVAD initiation proficiency, IV therapy certification, and CVAD care and certification required. Current understanding and knowledge of administration of various IV medications and blood products required. Ability to function independently and within a team environment required. Strong leadership, excellent communication and decision-making skills required. Competence in applying knowledge, skills, judgment and attributes required for safe, independent and inter-professional practice. Competence in integrating reflection, critical thinking, education and experience to inform practice. Demonstrated excellence in collaborative decision making required. Ability to work in a fast-paced acute environment with frequent interruptions and unexpected changes in patient’s conditions. Ability to respond to patients in medical distress and anaphylaxis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Connect Care – Clinic Nurse and Day Medicine/IV Therapy Nurse an asset Experience in an outpatient setting an asset
