Your Opportunity:

Wetaskiwin has an exciting opportunity for a LNP on our Day Surgery Unit. Wetaskiwin is a large rural hospital. You will have the opportunity to work as part of our surgical & endoscopy teams. Wetaskiwin is a busy OR with three theaters performing a variety of general/gynecological/ophthalmologic surgeries in addition to the established endoscopy program. We are excited to be working on expanding our programs in alignment with the AB Surgical Initiative & are looking for a dedicated LPN to join our team. You will report to the Operating Room department Manager & will be responsible for providing pre-operative, post-operative & endoscopy patient care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with College of Licenced Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA), Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) & Canadian Standards Association (CSA). You are responsible for providing basic to advanced clinical nursing practice & maintaining safety throughout patient’s pre-operative to post-operative experiences. As the patient advocate utilizing both evidence-based measures & outcomes, you will provide a link between the home or Care Unit & the Operating Room. This place of work is in a community designated for Canada Student Loan forgiveness. You may be eligible for Canada Student Loan forgiveness if you meet other eligibility requirements. Wetaskiwin is located 70 km south of Edmonton in the heart of Central Alberta. The city name comes from the Cree word which means “the hills where peace was made”. You can take a self-guided tour through the historic downtown & read about the peace cairn that commemorates sixty years of peace between the Blackfoot & the Cree. Wetaskiwin has an extensive trail system that leads you around the entire city with a direct connection to By-the-Lake Park.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
