Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Unit Manager of the Firefighters’ Burns Treatment Unit at the University of Alberta Hospital, the LPN provides site inpatient burn dressing support for adult and pediatric patients. The LPN must be able to work independently, demonstrate strong communication skills, and function effectively as part of an inter‑professional health care team. This role requires the use of nursing processes, critical thinking, problem‑solving, and sound decision‑making to deliver high‑quality care to patients and their families. The LPN plays a key role in the support of an integrated and holistic approach to the patient's healthcare and health promotion. Strong assessment and critical thinking skills are required as well as the ability to adapt to different situations quickly. The LPN acts as the liaison between the interdisciplinary team and other providers to support the patient. This is a front-line direct patient care position and includes sitting, standing, heavy lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 50 lbs.), and transferring or transporting of supplies, equipment and patients with varying degrees of mobility, including our bariatric population. The LPN mentors, teaches, coaches and acts as a preceptor to students. Must be adaptive, flexible and willing to embrace change in a rapidly expanding program as well as to cross train in all programs within the portfolio.
