Licensed Practical Nurse
Your Opportunity:
The Medical Ambulatory and Gastroenterology & Hepatology clinics within SHC is currently recruiting a casual Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Reporting to the Unit Manager of Medical Ambulatory and GI/Hepatology clinics, the LPN is responsible for the coordination of patients attending various clinics at SHC. Specifically, within Medical Ambulatory and GI/Hepatology the LPN is required to: Work collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team. Demonstrate clear and effective communication between team members and with patients and families. Perform intake for patients including vital signs, height, weight and medication reconciliation. Demonstrate efficiency and organization in assigning patients to clinic rooms. In addition to these tasks the LPN will be required to assist with various tests and procedures in the GI/Hepatology department. Medical Ambulatory and GI/Hepatology is a fast paced environment which requires high attention to detail, comprehensive assessment skills and a responsive nature to ensure the needs of patients are met. Specifically, within the Medical Ambulatory clinics, the LPN will be required to: Provide initiation, maintenance and removal of patient intravenous devices (IV). Administer medications as required through a variety of routes. The successful candidate will understand and comply with practice standards set by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA), the Health Professions Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Health Information Act and other relevant legislation.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Minimum of 3 years acute inpatient medicine experience within the past year. Ambulatory experience within the past year (equivalent 0.5 FTE or greater). Aptitude for or demonstrated excellence in initiating and maintaining and in decision-making related to venous access. Aptitude for or experience in adult teaching and learning required. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced changing environment required. Must be willing to taking direction from physicians and other registered nurses/ LPNs. Strong critical thinking skills within scope of practice including clinical judgement and problem-solving skills required. IV medication administration certification. Strong interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal. Flexibility to work within multiple clinic areas depending on operational needs. Must be able to assist patient with mobility deficits; ability to transfer patients to stretcher required. Must be able to work in a physically challenging environment: constant walking, lifting, standing and bending is necessary. Excellent time management skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:Interest in and expertise in comprehensive patient assessments and patient education. Familiarity with the following IT systems: Netcare & Connect Care. Ambulatory Clinic Connect Care training completed (Ambulatory Nurse).
