Licensed Practical Nurse
Your Opportunity:
Under the supervision of the Nurse Clinician, Charge Nurse, and GI Managers, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides quality and collaborative patient and family-centered care within the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, in the Endoscopy Department at the Foothills Medical Centre. The LPN is an integral member of the Endoscopy multi-disciplinary care team. LPNs are the primary care provider to Endoscopy Recovery Room patients, caring for patients with new or chronic GI/liver conditions, and new cancer diagnoses. Primary responsibilities include admitting patients to the Admission/Recovery Room, performing patient assessments, IV initiation, providing post-procedural sedation patient care, and discharge teaching. The successful candidate will have effective time management and organizational skills, and a strong ability to adapt to shifting priorities. Must have a proven ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team. To fully support Gastroenterology and Hepatology services, the successful candidate may be cross trained to work in various areas, including the GI/Hep Outpatient Clinic in AREA 2 UCMC. Current hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 0700-1815hrs, however, these hours may change to meet operational requirements.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Previous 2-3 years’ experience in an acute care setting required. Previous experience with Gastroenterology and Hepatology patients, and endoscopic procedures. Previous experience recovering patients from procedural sedation and an understanding of post-procedure complications. Ability to function independently and within a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team environment required. A commitment to patient and family centered care is required. Required demonstration of a professional, respectful and caring approach, with solid work ethic required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, supporting the AHS Workplace Competencies. Strong verbal and written English communication skills required. Ability to adapt to change and be flexible with an approach to daily duties, as required. This is a very physical and position requires lifting, bending, walking and standing for long periods while performing numerous physical activities. Must be able to lift 35 lbs. from waist to shoulder/floor to waist. Able to stand, push/pull patients on stretchers. Intermediate computer skills required.
Preferred Qualifications:Certification and experience in IV therapy preferred. Previous experience recovering patients from procedural sedation is preferred. Experience with Connect Care and Netcare is preferred. Monday and Friday availability.
