As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a correctional facility, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care to a diverse and often underserved population. Working in a secure, fast-paced environment, you’ll use your clinical skills and critical thinking to manage a wide range of health concerns—from chronic disease to acute care and emergency response. With significant autonomy and the support of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you'll conduct assessments, administer medications, and contribute to care planning and delivery. You'll also play a key part in health promotion, harm reduction, and the prevention of illness and injury, helping to restore and maintain wellness in a non-traditional but highly impactful healthcare setting. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent acute care experience required (up to full-time equivalent within the last four years). Ability to work to the full scope of the professional designation. Working knowledge of the AHS/Recovery Alberta Harm Reduction policy suite is and Trauma Informed Care principles. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team including external agencies. Demonstrated strength in working in a complex environment utilizing critical thinking. Ability to perform to the physical requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent acute care experience preferred (up to full time equivalent within the last four years). Corrections health experience across youth, adult male & female remand/sentenced populations is an asset. Connect Care experience preferred.
