Licensed Practical Nurse
Your Opportunity:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary neonatal team in the delivery of care to neonates and their families in a level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Peter Lougheed centre (PLC) in Calgary, Alberta. PLC supports a wide variety of patients throughout the city of Calgary and surrounding areas. Neonatal nursing is a subspecialty of nursing that works with critically ill newborn infants born with a variety of issues ranging from prematurity, birth defects, infection, cardiac malformations and surgical. Caring for the youngest and smallest of patients, attention to detail and critical thinking are essential to the neonatal nurse’s role. A high level of competency and proficiency is also required to work within this highly technical area. Nurses should be able to evaluate challenging situations and make quick judgments in a fast-paced environment based on the fluctuating health status of NICU patients. Additionally, they need to be able to maintain a level-head when faced with ethical and emotional situations, and care for families with an empathetic understanding of their situation.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent (within the last 6 months) experience in NICU or currently enrolled in NICU orientation required. Current NRP 1-9 required. Must be able to perform repetitive physical duties that include walking long distances, pushing, pulling, bending, and reaching, assisting with patient transfers and other duties related to patient care.
Preferred Qualifications:CVAD certification preferred. Preceptor/mentorship experience preferred. Evidence of continued professional development contributing to role preferred. Lactation course/certification preferred. Critical care experience preferred.
