Your Opportunity:
The Licensed Practical Nurse - PCU 71 and 72 (LPN) works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary healthcare team on two 38-bed Acute/Sub Acute Medical Unit(s) at the Foothills Medical Centre. The patient population on these units include acute medical patients and patients awaiting transfer to an alternative level of care settings in the community. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will work in collaboratively amongst a multi-disciplinary team to ensure that our patients receive high quality, patient/family centered care. These patients do have complex and diverse care needs. The LPN will be orientated and required to work on both Unit 71 and Unit 72. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Current Required Organizational Learning (ROL) required. Recent (within last 2 years) acute medicine nursing experience and strong clinical interest in medicine and geriatrics is necessary. Demonstrated ability to work and lead in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations. Must have the necessary skills to work with patients with dementia, brain and spinal cord injuries and patients who have challenging behaviors. Strong clinical and assessment skills necessary (Patient assessment, IV certified, Foley insertion, and Glucometer certified etc.). Must have excellent interpersonal communication, effective time management and organizational skills required in order to work with the multidisciplinary team. Must be able to work in a fast-paced department that is variable, unpredictable, and has competing priorities. Strong conflict resolution and case management skill set necessary. Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with all members of the healthcare team and with patients and family members. Ability to lift and turn patients safely utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment (IYM). Ability to lift and transfer up to 50 lbs. up to 25 % of the time - utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:Relevant Senior’s and Geriatric Health education is highly preferred. Connect Care experience preferred.
